At one point you as the audience literally listen to this song playing in another room like all those Tumblr posts. youtu.be/9K7rmxj…

Entertaining. But I am still unconvinced I need to watch a full hour thirty of gifs of Ryan Gosling from Blade Runner 2049 pasted into gifs from Baby Driver set to Tumblr music manipulations, which is what I am gathering Drive is

i didn’t think i’d seen any of his others but turns out i have too. valhalla rising is also really good. mads mikkelsen as odin is dream casting and i’m sad we’ll probably never get that american gods cameo now. was bronson good?

Idk???? It is extraordinarily violent and I mostly dislike that, but somehow I didn’t hate that movie, which was confusing. Probably because it was also very unusual, and I do like that. Howevs, knowing that the same director was responsible for Drive and Valhalla Rising makes me not want to watch them, so who knows.

Oo, Drive was MY JAM when it came out. It was the first movie of That Type I’d seen (synthy, neon stylized violence a la Heat etc) and it made a big impression. It’s such a specific memory for me that I can’t look at it objectively but I think it still holds up. The soundtrack is excellent, regardless.

But this is why I AM TORN

Every time I see this picture it’s like…this coat was put on earth to grace the form of Sufjan Stevens. God’s up there like, “this coat is for you, my son.”

Extremely True, when I saw it I just thought “oh, you mean THE MOST SUFJAN JACKET GUCCI HAS EVER DESIGNED”

Oh honestly I’m now considering: how likely that this was yet another instance of Luca “Been Knew” Gaudagnino just…[gentle Italian encouraging gesture] putting all the elements in the same room

MY DREAM, ASSUREDLY

Oh god it occurs to me that some of you might have missed this treasure (every new thing about the production of CMBYN is a weird beautiful treasure); let me just copy the whole thing out here. Also, to reiterate a position I have held since his X-Men coverage during summer 2016: Kyle Buchanan is my favorite film journalist at Vulture 4evs:

You’re like if a less stressed-out Hermione was waving her wand around to make essays about tv show episodes appear on parchment because they really value thoughtful and engaging art reviews at Hogwarts I guess. And the emotional tone is that of a gif of an overjoyed girl hugging her favorite toys except they are fictional characters. So I guess maybe the tone is the trademark, this got away from me.

A LESS STRESSED-OUT HERMIONE omg I will take this. Ah, Alex, this is so sweet!! [gif of overjoyed me hugging YOU]

What’s my writing trademark?

Please come back! For Stamets! For Tilly!

Eh, the show isn’t about them though. And it’s not even really about Michael either, so who know’s what’s going on there. Probably it’s under-led and over-produced.

codaking replied to your post: Star Trek: Discovery - Ep 9

Unless it’s unwatchable for you I’d say to at least give it until the end of the season

Why though? I gave this show 9 episodes, which is one more than I gave TNG before moving on, and it would be due to the same reasoning: I like this a bit, but why stick around when there’s so many other things out there I could like a lot, or even Love. And then I found Deep Space Nine. So you see how it is.

the-bees-patella replied to your post: Star Trek: Discovery - Ep 9

There’s a character named Lorca??? Sigh your recaps alone have a strange persuasive power that I don’t understand

His first name is Gabriel, and every time Cornwell has called him that my entire neuronal network is stunned into silence for a split second.

And really?? Even though they’re so lukewarm??

dangerno replied to your post: Star Trek: Discovery - Ep 9

Lorca is just a TNG admiral.

This is the deftest fucking insight, thank you, holy shit. And, loops us nicely back up to my earlier TNG comment!

“I suggest just my girlfriend” 😂

Thank you so much for giving me the honor of laughing at that given that you just sent me watch-notes that included the line “fuck Lorca now and forever, leave my washed out mushroom child alone”, which is priceless

thenameofthegameisfizbin replied to your post: Star Trek: Discovery - Ep 9

I’m in the same boat I am really not sure I want to watch more. I probably will end up watching it just cause it’s star trek but still… Lorca’s line about changing them “from polite scientists to fearsome warriors” is basically whats wrong with all of discovery :(

First: holy shit do I love your Up All Night scenarios
Second: HOLY SHIT definitely do see the new Blade Runner while it in in theaters!!! Really cannot recommend this enough!!

Thank You, I sure do hope to get this into spec script form before too long! And by that I mean fanfiction. And by that I mean…spec scripts.

Woooooo a strong rec! It’s playing at my favorite independent theater in the city so I just might do it!
