The St. Nicholas tradition is based on a long tradition. It originates from two historical persons: Nicholas of Myra (4th century) and Nicholas of Sion (6th century)  According to legend, Saint Nicholas performed numerous miracles: for example, he calmed a storm, brought the dead back to life and saved women from prostitution. As early as the Middle Ages, Santa Claus was revered in Europe as the patron saint of children.
