there's something about that X-Files analog bizarrely comforting vibe anyway you guys listen to that Radiolab about how the tinier and more ubiquitous we make our technology the more susceptible it is to gamma rays fucking it up and if we went back to the big clunky 90s phones and took the computers out of our cars and whatnot we'd be pretty much fine I now think about that all the time The X Files technology television

FLEABAG - Season 2, Ep 1

Veering ever closer to the dividing line between recap and liveblog here, as I just reeaally had a lot to LOVE ON. Love all OVER. I mean what do we expect, I think every review of this season I’ve read has earnestly called it “perfect” with no qualifiers. This is a perfect season of television, deepening and expanding an initial season that already seemed pretty darn near perfection itself, and so it will get a 2500 word close-read of one 25 minute episode. But these are officially still just notes—if I diverge into full Wellntruly Recaps someday, you will know. Capitalized beginnings of sentences, for one, would be a dead giveaway.

Anyway, what we actually have below: a whole lot of commentary on Season 2, Episode 1 of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag. If you have not watched the show, start with the first season of course and then come back here! You can watch all of Season 1 in two and a half hours (I did) and it’s brilliant. The same is also true for Season 2, which I also watched start to finish in one go, this past weekend when it finally premiered in the US. Though this time I had my friend Emily as a watch buddy, so occasionally whatever commentary I remember us having will pop up here. Bonuses! But, although I do *know*, these episode rewatch notes won’t include any spoilers for what’s to come. Maybe just the occasional vague emotional outburst. So you can read along with your watch if you like, and still experience all the surprises firsthand!

Alright I think that catches us up. LET’S GO!

Fleabag Season 2

is such magnificent television that when I think about it my heart hurts with how good it is.

I binged the second season with a friend last night and we were just shaking with laughter and emotions and it’s fully too much for me to try to address in a spoiler-free “review” when I’m still so caught up in happy-sorrow so—I’m going to rewatch it immediately and post ecstatic notes on each episode.

What I will tell you now, in case you have been on the fence about Fleabag, is this:

- the first season is sharp and hilarious and lovely and profound
- the second season is somehow even better
- the first episode of the second season should be taught in writing schools
- Phoebe Waller-Bridge did not just add Andrew Scott as a hot priest, she also added recent blog faves Kristin Scott Thomas and Fiona Shaw as a hot businesswoman and a hot therapist, thereby proving her uncanny understanding of What Is Hot: drunk disheveled Irish priests and immaculately dressed women of a certain age
- “This is a love story.”

whorological asked:

Returning to tumblr & finding out that you’re doing Killing Eve recaps is an absolute *delight*, you’re an amazing recapper (I found your thru your legendary Hannibal recaps in the day) & omg I’m psyched. What are your 4 other shows at the moment (might’ve missed the details in the flurry to catch up! Sorry). Jodie’s emerald robe is Iconic & Everything & she is scary luminous. also: totally legit to crush on Carolyn/Fiona Shaw; her line delivery is perfect & her demeanor strikes me dead w lust

Awww, thanks!! I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that nothing will ever top my Hannibal recaps, my glory days are behind me and all that, because my UNEMPLOYED DAYS are behind me. So y’know there’s also upsides. But I’m overjoyed to hear my much lighter liveblog things still make you happy! And not writing full ass recaps gives me time (and brainspace) to, oh wow, watch more than one thing at once, a real novelty in the last who even knows how long! Currently I’m watching:

- Maniac, the first few in a clump and now I’m parcelling them out to watch over the phone with my best buddy every week or so, because this show is very much our kind of aesthetic/stupid/psychological (aesthetic stupid psychological) and lends itself very well to hollering at with a friend. I’ve only written about it a couple times because my response never really varies much from “haha lol, why would you do this”

- Fosse/Verdon, which I think is like a B/B- overall show with a true A+ performance by Michelle Williams and honestly? I appreciate both aspects. When I watch a great show I get really involved, and when I watch a show I don’t think is as good (see above as well) it kinda lets me off the hook a bit? I can just watch TV like a normal person. It’s fantastic. Anyway to that end so far I’ve written about this one: once.

- And of course the new season of Killing Eve, with notes each episode! I like this show just as much this season as I did last season, and this time I’m not even couch-bound with a cold shivering and eating chicken paprikash. Things I do not expect or care about from Killing Eve: the plot making much sense. Things I do expect and DEEPLY care about: Jodie Comer being scary luminous, as you so wonderfully put it, in luxury fabrics.

I have no idea if I said somewhere I was watching four shows, though it’s possible—that I said it, not that I am, because I am not. When I finish Maniac though I’ll probably do Kings finally? I like the idea of catching up on the one-season shows I’ve missed, in my new free-wheeling multi-show lifestyle.

Oh wait hold on I also binged the fourth season of Broad City at last!! Though I’m still behind because the fifth & last season isn’t streaming yet. But this show takes me RIGHT BACK to New York and I will always love it. I was on a second cocktail, at the time, but I think I got lost in giggles at every scene in the housesitting episode.
