Listen, loved this danger-flirty glamorous killer/plucky investigator murdermance, obviously, of course I love the stylish morbid sharp grim hilarious bloody queer New Cold War spy thriller filled with WEIRDO WOMEN who are always messing things up and being very good at their jobs and eating snacks. BRAVA.
Y’know I’d told a friend back in the early episodes that this was well-plotted, but I think what I actually meant is that it was well-paced. I tend to get distracted by spy plots because I LOVE THEM ALL THE TIME FOREVER, but at the end here I can see that within the (superior) sub-set “spy plot”, this is not exactly a premier example. However, while loose, it strides along at such a nice pace! This show is constantly entertaining, sometimes thrilling, always nice and fun to watch. The humor is essential to this, and wonderful. And that the story is peopled by the kind of characters it is. God they’re all so GREAT.

I was going to see if I could hold off on the new season of The Good Place and watch it all in December, so that I can spend this month focusing on the other three shows I’m meaning to be watching, but I CAN’T HELP MYSELF I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUUUUUCH!!!!

oh shit forgot to mention last season: really enjoyed how they spent all of S1 establishing that Debbie wears a ton of makeup just all the time, so that she didn’t look out of her usual character when she showed up to the first match as an Audience Member with a full stage face on. this remembered thought brought to you by: the least amount of makeup I think I’ve ever seen on her!
speaking of which, also love that Ruth just never does wear makeup in her daily life, it is VERY refreshing. I mean I’m sure they’ve got Alison Brie in some light foundation and have done her eyebrows and stuff, but she’s sure not wearing any eyeliner, mascara, shadow, lipstick, etc etc etc
Sure I had a good laugh ragging on American Gods Book & Show the other night, but I was always gonna keep watching it! I mean the thing is, I’ve read the novel twice. I’ve got that mass market paperback copy with the tree and the lightning on the cover, you know the one?— I’ve got that sitting on my bookshelf. There’s something in this piece of the cultural landscape that has kept me coming back. And that might just be how badly I *want* to like it, but that’s still not nothing. Forget it kid, it’s America.
Anyway it wasn’t until nearly the very end of the season that I realized I’d followed up The Young Pope with American Gods, because that is JUST how different the religiosity of these two shows hit me apparently!
