the one where poe comes back after a mission to some junkyard world in the outer rim with a battered and malfunctioning bb-8 in tow and everyone tries to tell him it’s useless to try and get a bb unit in working order because they’ve been out of production for years, see you can’t even find some replacement parts anymore, it took you 4 days just to dig up a maintenance manual
the one where poe reads about the bb line’s ‘adaptive personality’ function and makes a conscious effort to: spend some time talking to bb-8 everyday; speak softly around bb-8 even when he’s angry or upset; honest to god actually play hide and seek with his droid or having a long game of ‘find the thing’ across the entire base on their days off; never delete a file or tweak a protocol without bb-8′s consent, even when it’s a minor or routine maintenance thing
the one where their first genuine bonding moment after bb-8′s rescue is poe getting around to that promise of giving bb-8 a new pain job and asking bb-8 to choose some colors and it’s never outright said but the reason bb-8 picks white is that it’s pretty and not dirty like all the junk in the old scrapyard, and the reason bb-8 picks orange accents is because it matches poe’s flight suit and once the new coat is done bb-8 twirls around and chirps happily and poe’s big dumb all-loving heart hurts a little

you, in particular, need to SHUT the SHIT up oh myg od i’m dying. i see my life flash before my eyes and i realize i’ve accomplished nothing besides this post. it’s going to haunt me. my tombstone will just be a picture of this goddamn ball with the inscripition “catherine, like this fucking droid, was loyal until her untimely end when the goddamn pressure of the universe/thirty two thousand notes finally caved in her bulbous head”
She’s much more hopeful than I am, and much braver than I am. For a woman who had been alone for such a long time to be so open to what’s going on, and letting journeys happen, and letting relationships happen, I think is really incredible.

#this might be my favourite sequence in the whole film #we have just witnessed this incredibly driven #focused and competent #young woman #work all day in the blistering heat #just to be able to afford one simple meal #she accepts the unfairness at the exchange depot with a hardened stare and a set jaw #and she does it all on her own #but THEN #then she comes home #and we see in a series of simple heartbreaking images that #not only is she alone here too and has been for some time #(the marks on the wall) #but she is still in many ways a child #the handmade doll #the helmet #she puts on that helmet and looks up at the sky and suddenly she’s six years old and you can see that in some ways #despite her hard exterior and her very adult resourcefulness #she is still that six year old child #despite the daily struggle of her existence she still hopes and plays and imagines #she’s not just capable she is STRONG #she doesn’t just survive #she lives #she collects flowers in a desert #and keeps them in a vase #i love her so much #i love this writing so much #this sequence might be my favourite bit of screenwriting of 2015 #star wars #the force awakens
