The Enterprise encounters a planet in a weird time bubble like in that ‘Blink Of An Eye’ episode of Voyager, and in the handful of seconds it takes Scotty to correct a transporter glitch, Spock and Bones are stuck on the frozen surface for two years. During that time isolated together, they end up developing their own language conveyed entirely through sassy eyebrow movement. When he gets them back Kirk has absolutely no idea what to do with this, but is eager to learn & engage.

This fic becomes known for several structural novelties, including the cracked and fragmented ice-bound section, and of course the infamous Eyebrow Exchanges of the latter portion, featuring an inventive but dubiously efficacious hybrid of verbs and emoticons.

Just 2500 words of Grantaire monologuing at his surroundings while he takes a long walk in an overgrown Parisian park. The pathetic fallacy is thick, the language yet denser. Everyone suspects this work to be at least partially plagiarized from somewhere, likely several somewheres, but the amount of deliberate references make it difficult to know where to begin looking.

Erik builds Charles a metallic Xanadu. Although painstakingly faithful, it takes Charles a little while to recognize it because at the time he read “Kubla Khan” at Oxford he had been drinking Madeira since noon and was at that point upside down on a bed with an overlay of the streetlights outside the window spinning lazily across the page through the eyes of the bed’s other occupant.

He has no idea when Erik read Coleridge, nor why he has made this and brought him here. The answers are not exactly forthcoming, as the author is mostly interested in using meandering thought experiments about telepathy and manipulation of metals to build formally-oriented narrative jokes.

At some indeterminate time in the future after an indeterminate series of unfortunate events, Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter are silently chasing each other around the globe, each vying to be the one to, as he sees it, and as he would understand it, mercy-kill the other. There is absolutely zero dialogue throughout, merely solitary planning and description of movement. In short, a sort of Where In the World Is Carmen San Diego meets The Most Dangerous Game scenario, written with a strange, light remove and neutral inevitability, kind of in the spirit of a French New Wave narrator, which unnerves the hell out of everybody.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

It’s Benjamin Sisko’s favorite time of the year: the annual Deep Space Nine Scavenger Hunt, a charity event put on by Lieutenant Dax and Major Kira to raise money for Bajoran relief efforts. Every team Bashir has been on has come in second and it eats at him. His intent boggle eyes make O’Brien nervous and somehow he accidentally engages a heightened reality field while trying to order some coffee, double strong double sweet, turning the entire station into a Raiders Of the Lost Ark-esque obstacle course, liberally elaborated from Jadzia’s perhaps overly-whimsical clues. When a giant dodecahedron flattens Odo (temporarily), the stakes become clear….

I imagine this fic would function best with exceptionally meta scene transitions that read like hints. A sort of immersive romp, if that is a thing.
