This alien-like creature has been discovered 12,139 feet below the surface of the ocean. It was discovered by NOAA’s Okeanos Explorer near Guam in the western Pacific Ocean. It has been described by scientists as a “stunningly beautiful jellyfish” and is believed to be an entirely new species.

Sure, I saw the raw white gannets hit the waves so hard it could have been a showy blow hole. But I knew it wasn’t. Someone once told me gannets, those voracious sea birds of the North Atlantic chill, go blind from the height and speed of their dives. But that, too, is a lie.
