According to Jim Allan in An Introduction to Elvish, the Númenórean Calendar was similar to the French Republican Calendar. For example, the names of the third month of Winter, Súlímë and Ventôse, both mean ‘Windy’. When lined up in this way, most of the month names have matching or similar meanings.
