Wild Creatures portfolio
Years ago I made a series of small artist’s books (in an edition of two) using pictures of animals from a book of 19th century illustrations. Each featured a different animal (or types of animals) and a variety of papers and binding structures. The images were reproduced using different processes: acetate transfer, digital printing and screen printing.
I always wanted to collect the books in a box, but it took me a long time to pick out a design. After studying pictures from Sarah Bryant’s box making classes on her blog, I decided on a little box with a single drawer (basically yet another slipcase, this time with a drawer!) I used vintage Japanese paper for the drawer, book cloth for the outer case, and linen binding tape for the pull. The monkey image is letterpressed.
